Call for Papers

2010 SPECIAL DOUBLE ISSUE

The editors of Flusser Studies are planning a 2010 special double issue on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Vilém Flusser’s birth and the 5th anniversary of the journal. The issue will be available November 2010.

Photography, Cinema, the Image, and Vilém Flusser:

Papers are invited for the next double-issue of Flusser Studies www.flusserstudies.net, to be published in fall 2010. The issue focuses above all on Vilém Flusser’s contribution to the theory and practice of photography and encourages interdisciplinary contributions from scholars in cultural, literary, film and media studies and art history:
What is the theoretical and practical relevance of Flusser’s _Towards a Philosophy of Photography_, written more than 25 years ago and translated into many languages? What was the impact of Flusser’s conception of photography on the artistic practice of photography and image-creation internationally?
Beyond Flusser:

What is the status of photography and images within the present context of digital cameras and 3-D film? What new theoretical parameters and models enliven the scholarly debates on and artistic engagements with photography and images? How do theories of the (technical) image promote interdisciplinary scholarship?

Flusser Studies publishes contributions (5000-8000 words, including images or links) in English, German, French, Portuguese and Czech, as well as short videos and photography. Deadline for submission: 1st September 2010.
